(Montréal, May 1, 2003) – Saputo announced that its subsidiary Saputo Cheese USA Inc. entered into an agreement with Western Marketing & Sales, LLC to form Gallo Protein 2003, LLC, in which Saputo will hold an interest of 51%.
Gallo Protein, based in Atwater, CA, will manufacture and market whey protein isolates and related products from the WPC (whey protein concentrate) supplied by Saputo’s Tulare and South Gate (CA) cheese manufacturing plants, as well as from the whey of other cheese operations.
This agreement will enable Saputo to further maximize the by-products coming from its cheese operations in California. Saputo’s investment in this agreement amounts to approximately
US$2 million.
