Saputo encourages excellence by presenting $120,000 in bursaries to 37 student-athletes

10/06/2011 12:00 UTC

Montreal, October 6, 2011 – Saputo Inc. revealed today the names of the 37 student-athletes who will be granted a total of $120,000 in bursaries through the 12th edition of the Saputo Bursary Program—within the Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence.

Last year, Saputo announced it was renewing its partnership with the Foundation by donating one million dollars over five years—a $200,000 per year investment.

Saputo would like to salute the Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence for its exceptional work on behalf of student-athletes, and for the solid partnerships it has built with Quebec businesses that support the development of today’s high performance athletes. These young men and women, who represent our society, highly deserve our support in their quest for success—both for their dedication to their sport and for the example they set.

Mr.  Claude  Chagnon,  President  of  the  Quebec  Foundation  for  Athletic  Excellence,  said,  ―We  are  very proud to be associated with such a prestigious and world famous Quebec-based company. Our common values  regarding  healthy  lifestyle  choices  and  the  importance  of  education  allow  our  partnership  to strengthen  year  after  year.  Saputo  demonstrates  initiative,  leadership  and  passion  in  its  support  of today’s Olympians and young student-athletes representing tomorrow’s Olympians. ‖

Among this year’s bursary recipients, several have excelled on the international scene. They include Olympic wrestler Martine Dugrenier, recipient of a seventh Saputo bursary. She was named World Champion three times and is aiming for a medal at the next Olympic Games in London. And in freestyle skiing-moguls, the three sisters Maxime, Justine and Olympian Chloé Dufour-Lapointe are now all on the National team with an eye on the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi. And in weightlifting, Marilou Dozois-Prévost, who finished 10th at the Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, is aiming for a podium at her 2nd  Olympic Games in London next summer.
