Saputo Inc. enters the European market by acquiring a German cheese manufacturer

(Montreal, March 29, 2006) – Saputo Inc. announced today that it has entered into an agreement to acquire the activities of Spezialitäten-Käserei De Lucia GmbH, based in Germany. The transaction is subject to certain closing conditions and should be completed before the end of April 2006.

Founded in 1964, Spezialitäten-Käserei De Lucia GmbH, manufactures and sells Italian cheese specialties such as mozzarella, ricotta and mascarpone, mainly under the De Lucia brand. The company’s revenues in its last fiscal year were approximately Euro 20 million. It employs approximately 60 people at its manufacturing facility located in Heiden, Germany. 

This acquisition will complement Saputo’s current activities in Canada, the United States and Argentina.
